My daily Tweets on 2009-10-29

October 29th, 2009
  • I have been looking at CMS lately. Mostly in PHP since it fits my target better. I am accointed to Joomla and Drupal already. But results… #
  • Most promising CMS I found, both developer and designer/content manager friendly: SilverStripe, ModX and Concrete5. #
  • SilverStripe and ModX in particular are clean, OOP and have great admin interfaces. They should get more love they currently have. #
  • Great news for indy game developers and to some extend people looking at publishing iPhone games. Unity 3D is now free for indies. #
  • Please note that Unity for iPhone is still worth 399$, but you can develop for free and prototype on MAC or Windows and sell on these. #
  • And Unity is coming to Xbox360, a serious contender for Microsoft XNA. Moreover since Unity uses Mono, the free .Net implementation. #
  • By the way, for iPhones, Unity compiles code into native code, which means your are safe to sell it on the App Store and Apple hassle-free. #
  • Some know that I love my local library. The Waitakere Libraries in the Auckland region, NZ. I suggested tons of excellent books they bought. #
  • And they bought ‘Even Faster Website’ from Steve Souders which is a must read. Unfortunately it took the rain: my fault :-( . #
  • But I insisted to pay for the book and so they can buy a brand new copy. The book is perfectly readable, pages were wet but they are intact. #
  • I have to wait 2-3 months before suggesting half a dozen books again. They already bought more than a dozen this year: .net,python,jquery… #
  • So again: I LOVE the Waitakere libraries. If you live in the Auckland region, take a look in the catalogue, there is stuff for developers. #
  • I would like to say that I am honestly impressed by the system engineers in my new company: a NZ hosting company. They are top notch ! #
